In football, every transfer window contains some high-profile names. This year´s window is not any different regarding this fact. The top transfers almost always occur in the five biggest leagues of Europe:La Liga (Spain), Bundesliga (Germany), Ligue 1 (France), Serie A (Italy) and, most importantly, the English Premier League. Our focus goes to these leagues.
For three leagues in the big five, the transfer window opened on the 2nd of January, while for the remaining two leagues, the window opened on the 4th. The close of the window has been the 1st of February for all five leagues.
As for every business in the world, football has been the victim of heavy financial problems during the Corona-pandemic, which is reflected in the nature of the current transfers. In last year´s winter transfer window, all players of the Top 10 have been bought and signed permanently. In this year´s winter window, five out of the Top 10 have only been signed temporarily as loanees.
